COSMIC FORCES CREATE A SOLSTICE WORTH CELEBRATING-by William A. Davis,
Boston Globe (12/21/99)
The winter solstice, when the sun is farthest south of the celestial
equator, falls on the shortest day of the year. But it won't seem very
short to Cheryl Masson of Rehoboth, a priestess in the Church of Wicca
and chairwoman of the Witches League for Public Awareness.
''It's going to be a very long day,'' says Masson. Besides the customary
Wiccan rituals associated with a full moon and solstice, Masson says, she
will participate in the dedication of the site of a new temple for the
congregation she has cofounded in Dighton with Laurie Cabot of Salem, dean
of the area's self-declared witches.
